Support is building behind Leicester City Chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, as votes pour in to make him Thailand’s Businessperson of the Year.

Khun Vichai, Chairman of the Football Club and of its parent company King Power International, is among five men shortlisted for the prestigious award, presented by Bangkok Business News.

One of Thailand’s most respected business publications, Bangkok Business News annually recognises some of the country’s most successful business owners, investors and entrepreneurs, whose outstanding work has brought positive profile and commercial success to the Kingdom of Thailand.

2016 has been another memorable year for Khun Vichai and the Srivaddhanaprabha family, whose sensible, successful piloting of Leicester City to achievements few believed to be possible has been reflected in the progress made by the King Power Group of Companies.

Having taken ownership of Leicester City in 2010 and subsequently set about re-establishing the Club in England’s top flight, 2016 was the year the Srivaddhanaprabha family helped the Foxes achieve a feat very few thought possible in the modern era.

Just two years after achieving promotion from the Championship, Leicester defied pre-season odds of 5,000/1 to lift the Premier League title – the first top-flight title in our history – and become only the sixth club to lift the trophy in the Premier League’s 24-year history.

Led by the first Thai owner to win the Premier League title, the year continued with the Foxes beginning a glorious maiden voyage into the UEFA Champions League, again defying expectations to progress through the group stage, setting up an historic appearance in the competition’s knockout stages in 2017.

For King Power – already Thailand’s first and biggest duty free retailer, trusted by numerous world-leading brands and approved by The Airports of Thailand (AOT) – 2016 was a year of continued growth, as the company’s catalogue of airport and downtown branches continued to go from strength to strength.

Khun Vichai also added to his business interests in 2016 by purchasing a majority stake in Thai Air Asia – Thailand’s largest budget airline – allowing the group to further service Thailand’s booming tourism industry and expand beyond its duty free and hotel portfolio.
