Leicester City Football Club and Burleighs Gin are delighted to have teamed up to introduce the world’s first Leicester Dry Gin.

The unique dry gin, created by Burleighs Gin Master Distiller Jamie Baxter, pays homage to Leicestershire’s culture and diversity and is distilled with botanicals steeped in the history of the county’s food and drink to create a powerful spiced flavour.

Burleighs Leicester Dry Gin was officially launched last Thursday at the 45 West Bottle Shop and Bar in Leicester’s city centre with the help of City legend Steve Walsh.

Leicester City Head of Retail, Licensing and Merchandising Matt Payne said: “It’s hugely exciting to see two local brands come together and produce the world’s first ever Leicester-named gin. It’s exciting and it’s something that we should all be very proud of.

It’s important that local companies support each other so it’s a great story for Leicester to be creating a product that will have worldwide distribution

“It really is the top on-trend drink at the minute and I think last year, gin had record sales and I think it’s going to kick on from there. It’s hugely popular in Asia, which is a great link back to our Thai owners here at Leicester City.”

Leicester Dry Gin uses thyme, sage, nutmeg and mace – botanicals found in abundance in Leicestershire – and will be available for purchase from the City Fanstore at King Power Stadium on Wednesday 22 March, priced £35.

Burleighs CEO Phil Burley said: “It’s massive for the brand and massive for the company to be associated with such a global giant, which Leicester City is now.

“The association by being local is humungous for us. As we grow, we’ll be able to ride on the coattails of Leicester City’s success both last year in the Premier League and this year in the Champions League.

“If we can emulate the growth that Leicester City have had in the last few years then it’s a win for both of us.”

The Burleighs Gin distillery is located deep in Leicestershire’s Charnwood Forest, Loughborough and introduced its first product to the gin market in 2014.

Distiller Liam Armstrong, who played a major role in the creation of the gin, said: “It’s been great to be a part of this, especially with it being associated with Leicester and its food produce. Being from Leicester as a brand, you can’t ask for much more than to be a part of what’s going on in the city at the minute.

“We’ve created a story but what has to come first is the flavour. What we looked at creating are the spices that are typically used in Leicester food produce and it turns out that we’ve created a great herbal gin.

“To see people enjoying the gin like we have done this evening is a really satisfying part of the job.”
